We are looking forward to a wonderful Easter Sunday. Would you consider joining us this Easter Sunday to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Why did Jesus die? Why Did Jesus come? What was the purpose of Jesus’ life and death?
Why did Jesus come?
Many people truly wonder about this. With so many different religions, how can we be certain about the purpose for Jesus coming? We must first establish a basis for truth. We accept the Bible as our standard of truth. So Bible verses will be presented to answer these questions and help us grasp an understanding of why we celebrate Jesus resurrection from the dead.
Man is sinful
Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Righteous simply means, holy, or without sin. This verse makes it very clear, that not one single person is holy, righteous, or good in God’s eyes. We often view ourselves as good people. After all, there are people that behave worse than we do! However, if we look through God’s view, we all find ourselves at the very same level of ground, sinners.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Most people know deep down in their heart, they are not acceptable to God the way they are, the question then is, how do we become acceptable to God? Most people believe that if they do enough good works, or attend church, they will get enough merit, credit, or brownie points with God to become acceptable in His eyes.
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
This Bible verse helps clarify that it is not by good works or going to church that can save us. If that is true, then we are in quite a predicament…
Death is required for sin!
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; …
A wage is simply a payment for something. The payment for sin, is DEATH! Yikes, that is not good. So everyone is sentenced to death, and the Bible clarifies by explaining that Hell is the place of the dead. Hell is a place of flame, fire, torment and separation! No one wants to go there.
This is the reason for Jesus’ life! He came to become the sacrifice for us, that we can be saved. Without Jesus coming to the earth, we literally could not be saved.
Why did Jesus die?
Once we understand the predicament that mankind is in, we can look at the plan that God made to save man. Since mankind was sinful, he needed a Saviour. Jesus came to the earth to be that Saviour. John said, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”(John 1:29) In the Old Testament of the Bible, we read that the Jews would constantly offer a sacrifice of a lamb in obedience to God’s Word for their sin. It was prophesied that a Saviour would come. Jesus came to be the sacrifice for our sins!
Hebrews 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Jesus came as God in the flesh, lived an absolutely sinless life, so that He could pay for our price of sin, and save us. He didn’t sin, so He didn’t deserve to die! He died, because He loves the everyone.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Why did He raise from the dead?
In raising from the dead, Jesus defeated death and the grave, thus completing the plan of salvation. His resurrection proves beyond any shadow of doubt His power over death, hell and the grave. Without it, we could not be saved. “And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.” 1 Corinthians 15:17. That my friend is why Jesus rose from the dead!
If you in simply childlike faith, would repent of your sins. This means to acknowledge your sins, or understand you are a sinner and desire to be turned from them. Then call on Jesus to save you, put your trust in Him, you will be saved today.
Rom. 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
That is worth celebrating!
That is why we are celebrating Easter this year. Why not come and join us! April 12 at 10AM at Anchor Baptist Church.
